Berliner Dom, Museumsinsel, Berlin. La Catedral de Berlín, la iglesia más grande de Berlín, se ve a sí misma como un lugar central de la iglesia evangélica en Alemania. Más allá de las fronteras de la comunidad de la iglesia y la ciudad, atrae a cientos de miles de visitantes de Alemania y el extranjero cada año. El edificio fue construido entre 1895 y 1905. El lugar donde se encuentra este edificio lo ocupaba anteriormente una catedral barroca construida por Johann Boumann culminada en 1747 y posteriormente remodelada en 1822 por el arquitecto berlinés Karl Friedrich Schinkel en estilo neoclásico. Esta catedral fue demolida en 1894 por orden del emperador Guillermo II y fue reemplazada por la actual, diseñada por Julius Raschdorff en estilo neobarroco de fines de siglos XIX e inicios de siglo XX. Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, el templo quedó seriamente dañado por los bombardeos. Hasta 1975, fecha en la que comenzaron los trabajos de reconstrucción, se colocó un techo provisional para proteger el interior. Estos trabajos concluyeron en 1993,​ con un nuevo diseño de la parte superior más simple y de menor altura que el original. Su portada se encara al jardín Lustgarten y al palacio real berlinés (Berliner Stadtschloss).​ Mide 114 m de largo, 73 de ancho y 116 de alto, siendo mucho más grande que las construcciones que previamente habían existido en ese lugar. Se pensó como un gran templo protestante que contrarrestara la influencia de la basílica de San Pedro de la Ciudad del Vaticano. The Berlin Cathedral, the largest church in Berlin, sees itself as a central place of the evangelical church in Germany. Beyond the boundaries of the church and city community, it attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors from Germany and abroad every year. The building was built between 1895 and 1905. The site of this building was occupied by a baroque cathedral built by Johann Boumann culminated in 1747 and later remodeled in 1822 by the Berlin architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel in neoclassical style. These works concluded in 1993, with a new design of the upper part simpler and smaller than the original. Its front faces the garden Lustgarten and the Berliner Stadtschloss (Berliner Stadtschloss). It is 114 m long, 73 wide and 116 high, being much larger than the buildings that had previously existed in that place. It was thought of as a large Protestant temple that counteracted the influence of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City.
